Urban Portals
Speculative Environments
Supervisor - Dr. Joseph Lim
Social spaces form an important part of our daily commutes between our homes and workplaces. They allow for different forms of informal interactions among people that would not take place in the first, more private (home) and second, more formal (work) spaces. Past discourse on social and “third” places continue to rely on proximity and shared physical spaces as meeting areas, but virtual communities have been found to exhibit many of the same utilities. A possible solution to the loss of place and identity in the future may lie in the potential of new digital urban portals between the built environment and its users.
