Acoustic Comfort for Tropical Urban Living

Performative Design

Supervisor - Dr. Rudi Stouffs

Acoustical comfort, urban living, and tropicality: three aspects of contemporary life that seem to be always at odds with each other. Acoustical spatial design has been preoccupied with spaces for the minority and spaces as sound art. Cities have become subordinate to traffic and machines, and short of shutting out the noise and the tropical breeze, there is little we can do to keep the noise out. What we need is a wall, one that shields an acoustic oasis within.
