City in a Forest

Performative Design

Supervisor - Dr. Nirmal Kishnani

In the face of global changing climate, this project seeks to create a symbiosis between nature and heavy industries by creating a productive industrial landscape that bridges nature and in the process create spaces for humans and other species. The project site is located along the northern edge of Sungei Kadut and attempts to connect the two ecological patches of Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve and Central Catchment Nature Reserve. The main programmes in the masterplan include heavy industries like ready-mix concrete production, precast concrete manufacturing, and steel construction workshops. Waste from these industries will be treated through natural mechanisms, and nutrients for the nature on site will also be produced by these industrial processes, synergising ecosysterm services and industrial activities.
