The Aesthetics of Time with Bukit Brown
Atmosphere and Agency
Supervisor - Mr. Tay Kheng Soon
Inspired by the film Hashima Island in Japan where agedness is profound, this thesis project explores how architecture can embrace the aesthetics of time. This is because there is a problem for modern architecture where they cannot grow old, they had to be continuously made new & kept clean especially in Singapore. The aesthetic of time becomes relevant with Bukit Brown, an important relic of founding Singapore pioneers. Bukit Brown Interpretation Centre is proposed which is necessary for the preservation of Bukit Brown. The interpretation centre commemorates the pioneers reflecting on the journey of many of the Nanyangs, of their origin, how they arrived in ”SinChew” 星 洲, their glory and adaptation to the tropics.
