The Last Resort
Speculative Environments
Supervisor - Dr. Stephen Lau
The Last Resort is a open death retreat that prompts us to rethink our relationship with death. The euphemism criticizes the current alternatives to modern death and imagines an architecture that speculates the future of death and dying. Drawing inspiration from the case study of death tourism in Dignitas and criticizing the irony of firstworld Singapore’s third-world death industry, the Last Resort offers people at differing stages of death, a meaningful experience of death and dying, reinterpreting the act of euthanasia as not just a physical end to human life, but a preparation of the soul before leaving the world.
