This conservation project takes the now dilapidated and disused structure of former Pasar Ikan in north Jakarta and its adjacent plot of land, to revitalise the site into the Maritime Tradition Conservation zone of Jakarta. In addition to conserving and adapting the old structure , the design carries on with the site’s heritage value of being the trading place and middle ground for several distinct communities, and the centre of maritime activities. The design intervention accommodates two primary spaces – a market catering to both local community and tourist, as well as spaces for practice and education of traditional maritime activities such as boat construction and fish processing.
