This thesis project proposes the new method of commemorating the divided korean families between north and south korea impending reunification. It questions how division is currently remembered by telling singular narratives of history through the erecting of emotionless monuments and museums that spreads nationalistic ideals and neutralises that pain of separation, in itself an act of violence against its people when their experience of the separation differs completely from dominant state narratives. The project envision pop up commemorative spaces in open spaces around korea which gathers these counter narratives on to the site of imjingak, where the significance of the site as a money bringing tourist attraction or a worship/commemorative space is being contested.
