Garibong Arrival Center: The Third Place
Atmosphere and Agency
Supervisor - Dr. Simone Chung
Garibong arrival center is a neutral ground, a leveler and a home away from home for the Joseonjok. It is a place that welcomes and celebrates the home coming of the Korean diaspora and their daily morning commute to the labour market. The center integrates the human traffic, market trolley access and the vehicular access for the pickup vans and food trucks.
The plaza starts as a job market, where the registration and selection of the workers take place. It then transforms into a G-valley food network preparation hall- unemployed workers help out with the manpower and packing of food, to get dispatched out to the business districts nearby. In the evening when the workers have returned back from their work sites, the plaza transforms into an outdoor pub.
