Tokyo is Sea Land imagines a floating island called Tokyo Fantasy located on the contested waters of Tokyo Bay, where due to its many historical struggles and natural disasters, Tokyo Bay’s geography and coastline is a narrative that has been defined and redefined time and again in response to changes in political intentions and social and economical shifts. Drawing upon narratives, myths, legends, stories, histories – as many narratives as possible are needed to define the contours of a new territory. The project seeks to navigate this critical site between the actual and the imagined, and also, a space where architecture can enter into new relations with the landscapes of myth and fiction.
