Thorium Legacy

Speculative Environments

Supervisor - Mr. Cheah Kok Ming

This thesis project builds on the premise of thorium-based nuclear energy serving as a stop-gap solution for Singapore’s energy security before the maturity of renewables in 2040. The Thorium Legacy follows a journey of a temporal 20-year thorium power station that will eventually be decommissioned and retrofitted in phases to serve as a seafarers’ outpost in its afterlife. This proposal aims to create a discussion on how Singapore’s energy security can pan out as early as year 2025, and display the possibilities of embracing an alternative energy source as a nation.
