Floating Village
Speculative Environments
Supervisor - Mr. Tan Teck Kiam
Architecture is a form of compromise, especially when situated at an unstable state or in between conflicts. We understand the logic, the norms of behavior and politics of power, which allow the space to remediate difference, mitigate the crisis, and lastly draw the balance between conflicting ideas and perceptions. As we always refer to the past to understand the present, there is a question of how we should design for the future, the unknown and the unforeseen, mitigating the difference in time. In the face of climate change and persistent sea level rise, the floating village is an illustration of progressive resettlement of rural population which allow changes in time to be tolerated and reflected in spatial form, people in crisis to be transferred without being uprooted, culture to be continued without being disrupted.
