Impressions-in-Equality
Speculative Environments
Supervisor - Mr. Tiah Nan Chyuan
Through the lenses of inequality, the thesis is a critique of what Orchard Road is and a provocation of what it can be. On one hand, Orchard Road is this spectacle of a great street, the epitome of capital and mass consumerism. On another, it is a community of the Other, co-existing together in one space. Yet, this dichotomy is constantly threaten by torrential floods. By understanding the property ownership models and their relationships to microtopography in the area, the project proposes 7 microsites that enhances pedestrian connectivity while doubling as flood retention tanks. Ultimately, they are green public spaces for all to enjoy, getting away from the hustle and bustle of the shopping street.
