Resilient Vertical Farm

Atmosphere and Agency

Supervisor - Mr. Oscar Carracedo

One of the solutions to alleviate food insecurity in the context of Urbanization and

Climate change is to explore the possibility of propagating vertical farm prototypes which are self-sufficient; and whose main intention is to produce sufficient food for an increasing population. With the constant misconception that vertical farm is only known for its aesthetics and not really for the production of food, this vertical farm prototype strives not just to produce sufficient food, but it also intends to revolutionize agriculture in Bangladesh; an agrarian society in which 80% of its population depends on agriculture as a source of income.

With the aim of the vertical farm prototype being self-sufficient, it will adopt a closed loop symbiotic system; which embraces a closed network of energy-food-water-waste system. One of the site potential for the propagation of the proposed vertical farm prototype would be along enclosed waterbodies. Thus, the prototype will be capitalizing on the water capacity of the waterbody as the starting point of food production.
